Fantastic Fingerprints!

On Tuesday a policewoman called Sally came in and talked about Fingerprinting and other things that they would use to solve a Crime. Sally said that she worked as somebody who does most of the Fingerprint work. She showed us the 3 types of Fingerprints - The Loop, Whorl and Arch. The loop is the most common out of all three and that our Fingerprints are already formed when you have been in your mother's stomach for 16 months!

Later that day we did a Fingerprint worksheet and we had a sheet of ink. We rolled our Fingerprints on each hand and then tried to figure out what they were out of a Loop, Arch & Whorl.

Whetu Case #2020

Yesterday when we came back to school there was yellow tape saying Crime scene - Do not enter on the deck so we couldn't walk on the deck through to the bag hooks and walked on the concrete.

When we came into the Milkyway that morning we saw even more tape blocking off the non-carpet area. On the other side of the tape there was a shattered vase, the jar with the chocolates was tipped on its side, there was a brown Ngatea Primary School pen, there were drops of blood in places, there was a light pink Scrunchie, the window was cracked, there was blood on the window and handle, a tissue box and a tissue with blood on it, a cup that was filled with a brown drink and was spilt on the table and the tissue had soaked it up and lastly there were Milkyway Chocolates in places on the floor.

The police made us a video saying that there had been a crime in a class and he said to

Freeze

Control

Preserve

Then we had to complete a form and put on the information from the crime scene that we had gathered.

Plastic bottle Greenhouse!

Today I made a Greenhouse out of a Plastic Bottle. To make my Greenhouse I needed a Plastic bottle of my own and Mrs Fraser cut a slit in my bottle so then I could cut a even circle in the bottle so there were 2 separate parts. Then I went to the Garden behind Mr Hitchmen's shed and got some dirt and filled it almost to the top of the bottom half and then Mrs Fraser gave me a seed to put in. I had the choice of a Sugar Snap Pea or a Sweet Pea flower. I had a lot of fun making my Greenhouse and can't wait to see my Sugar Snap Pea grow!

Chapter Chat - Week 10 T3

This week for Chapter Chat I drew Abby as a Rock Star! When I was colouring Abby I realised the face looked a bit like my cousin Katie's! I really enjoyed it this week because I knew how to draw shoes front-on! Here is my Chapter Chat.

Literacy Investigation - Week 10 T3

This week the Literacy Investigation was The Mystery of the Astronaut. It was really fun because it wasn't too hard and it wasn't too easy.  The winner was...

Hugo Cooper!

LotW - Week 9 T3

This week the Letter of the week was G. It was quite easy because there are lots of words that have 2 consecutive G's in them, there are lots of words that contain the letter G & there are lots of Proper Nouns starting with G.

Letter of the Week - Week 8 T3

This week the letter for my letter of the week was L. It was easier than last week and this week I got to use my dad's name because it has consecutive l's. Here is my letter of the week.

Crystal growing Science workshop

For my workshop this week I chose to participate in the Science Workshop.                                                        On the first day we made Crystals out of Borax, Boiling water, a pipe cleaner, String, an Iceblock stick and a cup from the Staffroom. We also completed a Wordfind after the Borax had disolved.                                                  On the second day we made Sugar Crystals. To make the Sugar Crystals we used a Sugar syrup, A piece of string, an Iceblock stick and a cup.                                                                                                                      On the last day we made Art with Epsom Salt (also known as Magnesium Sulfate) and Boiling water. Then once the Epsom Salt had dissolved, we put the solution inside some film canisters and then put in some food colouring. We painted the solution onto the Black piece of paper and watched it crystalize.

Letter of the week - Week 7

This week the letter for my letter of the week was j. It was hard to find a word with double J or word that ends with J because there aren't many words that have 2x J or end with J. Here is my Letter of the week.

Letter of the Week - Week 6 Term 3

This week the letter for my letter of the week was T. I had lots of names starting with T so I did my cats name and I think that using my cat's name made it a Supernova!

Term 3 Whetu Workshop Reflection

During Term 2 and 3 the WhetÅ« students have had the opportunity to be involved in a range of different workshops.

The workshop that I have enjoyed participating in the most has been the Bean growing & Cooking.

The new learning that I have learnt is how to make Butter in Science with Cream.

What I have most enjoyed about the workshops are that we learn new things like how to make Butter and watch my Bean grow and we get to do it for three days now and not one.

I am interested in learning more about Cooking because I really enjoyed it and would like to learn to cook some different recipes.

Cooking Reflection

This week I chose to join the Cooking workshop option.

On the first day we planned the recipe & learnt about safety in the kitchen and kitchen risks.

On the second day we cut up the vegetables so that the Soup would be ready to cook the next day. I brought some Celery & Broccoli for the soup. We also learnt about the Food Pyramid.

On the third day we cooked the soup and ate it. It was really good and healthy because it had mostly all Vegetables in it.

Cross Country Reflection 2020

This year I participated in the NPS Cross Country held at school on the Ngatea Domain. I ran in the 9yr old girl's age group and ran against some of the Whenua 9yr old girls.

I am most proud of getting 8th because for the last 2 years I have come 13th and keeping on going when I felt like stopping.

I think my effort towards our training at school was Supernova because I tried really hard and did my best. I did some walking because my legs got sore but mainly jogged the track.

I showed the Learning Power of Resilience by keeping on going when I felt like stopping in my race.

Chapter Challenge - Week 1 T3

This term for Chapter Challenge we are reading Wink. It is about a boy who has Cancer in his eye and has to have a special type of treatment on his eye. For the first week I decided to do create the Freakout Scale of 1-10. It was really fun and it turned out really well! I think it is a Supernova because I put a lot of work into it.

Whetu Challenge - Week 3 Term 3

This week for the Whetu Challenge we had to create a Cartoon scene. For the challenge we had to work in our Learning Constellation groups so it was a bit different than when we get to choose who we work with. My group did the Simpsons & I did Allison Taylor for my character. At first my character was Maude Flanders but she was too challenging so I decided to do another character that was a bit easier. My favourite group was the Kermits because their scene was very detailed and it was an eye-catcher. What I found hard was tracing Allison and getting the exact same colours as the image. I would like to do something similar again soon!

Egg Drop Challenge - Term 3 Week 2

This week for the
We had to create
For the Egg Drop Challenge, I worked with Tayla & Emily. I think we worked really well together.
I think that building the Egg's nest was the hardest part because if we moulded it the wrong way then the Egg might not stay in.
The easiest part was creating the plan.
I think that it was lots of fun and I would love to do something similar soon.

Letter of the Week

This week the Letter of the Week letter was B. The easiest part was onomatopoeic word because there were lots that start with the letter B. My favourite part was learning about the Nouns, Verbs & Adjectives. I think my letter of the week was a Supernova!

Term 2 Reflection

The new learning activity that I have enjoyed the most this term is the Blog Challenges. I enjoyed the challenges because every week they are fun and challenging.  My favourite challenge was the interior design for my new bedroom.  It was fun to be able to choose everything I wanted.

Something that has challenged me this term has been the Basketball sessions that we have been doing with David. I am not that good at Basketball and while I was bouncing the ball I would lose control of it.. I am a bit better at shooting though and it was fun to learn more skills.

The Whetu Challenge I enjoyed the most was the Egg Carton Creation challenge because I could be as creative as I wanted to. I made 3 penguins and an arctic scene for them to sit in.

The opt-in workshop I enjoyed the most was growing my bean. After I had planted my bean Tayla and I did some research about the Dwarf French Bean to find out how long it would take to sprout and how to care for it. I have liked watching my bean grow.

An aim I have for my learning is to make sure I always add in that extra bit of effort to make all of my learning be at the Supernova level and more.

Whetu Challenge

EGG CARTON CREATION

This week for our Whetu Challenge we created something using egg cartons.
For the Egg Carton Creation I made Penguins in the Arctic. It was very fun and I would like to do something similar. It was a bit challenging but still easy because mine was simple but still was detailed. To make it I used 3 Egg Carton spaces, Egg Carton lid, Googly Eyes, Orange paper, Black paint, White paint & Hot Glue. My creation turned out just as I planned and I am really happy with how it turned out.

Blog Challenge - Week 11

This week for the Blog Challenge we did Interior Designing. I could either create my own Bedroom or Classroom so I decided to do the Bedroom. I think it was very fun this week but all the other weeks were still fun too. I also added my Bitmoji onto it so it looked like I was in my room. Here is my room.

Maths Mystery - Week 11

This week the Maths Mystery was called Murder at the Movies.  It was really fun this week because it was a bit more challenging than the last one! I just finished in time today so I feel really good about getting it done! I hope that I get pulled out on Friday. I have gotten pulled out twice before so I hope that I can be pulled out again. Here is my answer...

Roll-a-drawing

On Wednesday I did an activity with Mrs Heaven called Roll-a-drawing. Roll-a-drawing is a game where you roll the dice and match it up with either a Body, Arms & Legs, Hair & Eyes.
My favourite was the Spider because it turned out really well and also looked cute. I named my spider Gus and I think it suits him.

Whetu Challenge - Week 10

Whetu Challenge - Paper Planes

Today our challenge was to design an accurate paper plane. We were given a draft piece of paper to trial and a good piece to use once we had tested the accuracy of it.

Before we started I thought this challenge was going to be a little bit tricky because getting Paper Planes very accurate and nicely made so takes some resilience.

I decided to use the design Javelin as my draft but then it didn't work so I tried the Standard, but then that didn't work! So I decided to do the Paper Plane my Dad taught me to do and it was similar to the Standard but it doesn't use some of the steps in it.

The hardest part was getting the Paper Plane design to work and fly accurately.

During our competition time I managed to score on the runway twice but I never got into the Hangar.

Read & Predict - Week 10

This week for the Read and Predict I could either do the Read and Predict the teachers made up or my own for the book I am reading. I chose to do the one the Teachers made because I have almost finished the book. Here is my Prediction

Blog Challenge - Week 10

The Blog Challenge this week was to design a new birthday card design for Mr Fraser & Miss Coles. My card is suited to kids all ages and for boys and girls. I think I did really well with this & I hope to do something similar! I think that my card is a Supernova!

Blog Challenge - Week 9

This week for the Blog Challenge it was In Ten Years... I think it was really fun this week. In 2030 I will be 19. I really liked this activity & it would be cool if we could do more like this. Here is my work. I think it is a Supernova!

Tennis Ball Tower Challenge Week 8

Tennis Ball Tower Challenge

Today for our Whetu Challenge we worked in a group to build a tower out of newspaper, 2 straws and sellotape. We needed to make our tower strong enough to hold a tennis ball and be able to stand alone (not leaning on anything or needing support).

Today I worked with Olivia & Chrysler on the Tennis Ball Challenge.

Our Tower wasn't successful apart from the basket.

I think our Tower would have been successful if we took some time to plan it out a bit more, make it tidier and stronger.

In the end I think we needed a bit more time and a different design.
I think the Tennis Ball could have stayed in if we had a straighter & more stronger design.

Maths Challenge week 8

This week our Maths challenge was called The Mystery Of The Naughty Gnome. It was very fun and I worked with Olivia. This week it was a bit more challenging than last week so it took a bit longer. I really like these math challenges that we have been doing! Here is my answer!

Prediction week 8

This week I did a prediction but I didn't do it about the book I am reading now. I think the text was really cool and if I could I would want to hear more about it! Here is my prediction. I hope they come true!

Blog Challenge week 8

This week for the Blog Challenge we had a template to fill in about our pet! I did mine about our Cat Trembles. I changed the colours and font colours around a bit to make it look a bit cooler. Trembles loves playing in boxes and paper bags, chasing string and most especially sleeping on our beds! I think Trembles is the perfect cat and she is so cute, cuddly & kind. I think my Blog Challenge this week is a Supernova. Here is my challenge.

Catapult Challenge week 7

Today I made a Catapult with Olivia T & Shylah-Faye and it was very fun.

The things that I used to make my catapult were 8 ice block sticks, 5 rubber bands & a plastic spoon. We followed a tutorial online and I think it is really good because we were successful.

To make my catapult I worked with Olivia T & Shylah-Faye and I think I chose well because I work really well with them.

The most challenging part was putting on the Rubber bands because one of them snapped and it was very annoying.

Our best results were 65 cm. We used my ruler and got the measurement by putting it down twice.

Overall I think that we did very well and it was very fun! I hope that I can do something similar soon!

My Emoji

This week I made my own Emoji. My Emoji is a Valentines Emoji. I have always wondered why there was only Heart and Arrow and not an Emoji Face like all the others. But it isn't just a Valentines Emoji really, it could be a love Emoji or anything else that you think might suit the Emoji so it can be used for a lot of different reasons. Here is my Emoji. I think it is a Supernova.

My Prediction

This term I am reading The Silver Brumby. I think it is a really cool book and it has a really good hook. I the book there is a horse called Thowra and he becomes the leader of the old Yarraman herd.

His companion, Ginger was a Brumby muster horse and then Thowra and his friend Storm broke her free and her master wanted her back.

Here is my prediction.

Week 7 Maths Challenge

This weeks Maths Challenge was The Mystery Of The Missing Story Ends. It was a bit easy because there wasn't a long suspect list & the clues were a bit easy. I am hoping for something that is a bit harder next week. The culprit was...

Week 1 Reflection

On Monday we came back to school and now it has almost been a whole week back. This is my reflection of the first week back.

My highlight this week was being able to see my friends and teachers again & Dressing up because I haven't seen my friends & teachers for 7 weeks.

What I was nervous about this week was coming back to school because I was nervous about doing something wrong or forgetting something.

For Dress up day I dressed up as the colours Blue & Black because I had everything I needed at home, a blue Tutu, blue T-shirt, black jeans/pants & a blue Bow

The funniest thing has happened this week is that when I was playing Tigi I was hiding with Madeleine & Jessie, everyone but us were in and they came from each side of the playground - left, right & front. We ran to the left and then I ran to the right but got tug.

I think the best dressed person was Tayla & Olivia because Tayla's costume was really unique and Olivia's was really cool because she had a really cool top and hat.

This is a photo of me in my Dress up

Milk Bottle Creation

Today I made a Milk Bottle creation. As my creation I made an Elephant because it was simple, didn't use that much decorations & the images on Google looked really cool.

The hardest part was Hot Gluing on the Tail and Eyes because I was a bit nervous about burning myself & the cutting.

The easiest part when I was making my Elephant was painting my Elephant.

I enjoyed making my Elephant because it was simple but also a bit challenging with the cutting.

This is a photo of my Elephant

Maths Challenge week 4

Last week I did the Murder Mystery Maths Challenge. I think I did really well with it because the clues were a bit hard especially the last and second to last one. After I completed the 1st clue I told Dad the suspect list and who was left and we both had a guess for Rudy George but I don't know why. this is the criminal.

Chapter Challenge week 4

For our last chapter challenge for our book Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, I made some baking for the Doctors & Nurses who helped Fudge through his big accident. Sadly for Peter, his pet Dribble didn't survive. For the Doctors Nurses, I made Weet-Bix Slice with Chocolate Icing. I made it by myself.

Chapter Challenge week 3

This week for Chapter Challenge I made Fudge's 3rd birthday invites. When I started it looked really boring so I added in an image of balloons for the background. I had a little fiddle around with the font, size, colour & fill colour. I think I did a good job of making a Supernova! Here are Fudges Birthday Invites.

ANZAC Biscuit Making

Today I made ANZAC Biscuits to have some fun while learning. I had to do lots of measurements to get the exact amount of ingredients in. When we put the mixture on the baking tray it spread out a lot and all of the biscuits stuck together. They were a little bit soft since we had finished baking them so Mum thought that it needed a little bit more flour then what it had in it. When Dad came home he ate one for lunch and had another half afterwards! This is my baking 🠟

My Biscuits!
