Chapter Challenge

This is my Chapter Challenge activity for week five 2020. I decided to do a Creation Station since I did a Digital Design last week, I made a mechanical horse that Sir Monty's Mountaineers rode. Their bodies were Red with Gold trim and Blue Manes and Tails but I decided to put the Gold in the Mane and Tail. I drew it to be grazing in the paddock.

1st Chapter Challenge

For Chapter Challenge this term we are reading the MapMakers Race and it is a really cool exciting book. For my first Chapter Challenge Blog post I decided to make an Advertisement for The Great Race. I did a draft in my artbook and then got my computer and started typing it up. After that was finished I changed the font and size and shared it with the teacher after that Mrs Heaven printed it out and I thought to make it look a little older I’d add some Roses. Once that was done I showed Mrs Loft and we both thought that it looked to 2020 (new not old) especially since the advert dated all the way back to 1986, ages ago so she said to rip it up a bit to make it look old but not old enough. But first I had to scrunch it up and unwind it twice. Now it was time for the tea so Teana, Madelene and I went to the Staffroom to get a teabag to rub over it to make it look old. We came back to class and got a jar of water and 3 paintbrushes then we put the tea in the water until it turned the colour your tea would look like if you hadn’t put the milk in yet. Then I grabbed the tea and squeezed it over the piece of paper. Then we grabbed a brush each and spread it all over it. Then we set it out to dry on the barbeque table. Then we needed to pack up so I brought it inside and mum put it in the teacher only room to continue drying and then it was done!! It looked really old but amazing. I am grateful that Teana and Madelene helped me with it. The most challenging part was doing the Tea part because it couldn’t get to wet or it would begin to tear.

My Family Star

Over the last week, I have been working on my visual pepeha. First, we made a draft in our art books, then we would go up to the teacher to get it signed off as proof they had seen it. Next, we would use try out the colours we might use on our draft and then look at how we would arrange all the parts of our pepeha into a star that we drew by ourselves. Then we would show the teacher again and if it was a Supernova we would get our star and go onto a completely new step. Tayla and I were quite nervous to create our stars in case something went wrong. But I felt once we started working there was no going back and redrawing everything. Once we had finished drawing we started colouring in our pencil lines with coloured pencils. Once that was done our stars looked like it was done by a famous Artist, But there was one thing left to do… Sharpie it!! So once that was done we would bring it into the teachers. Then we would have to get some photos and they had to be sent to the teachers by Thursday. Then on Friday afternoon our parents or family could come in and help us stick and glue our photos onto our stars and then they’re finished.

I am proud of what I had done as my family. Since I live on a Dairy farm I decided to draw a Friesian calve (inspired by one of the calves I raised.) and in all of the white spots I had Mum, Dad and Chloe and on the white legs, I had Maddison and Katelyn (Me!!).

What I found challenging was drawing the calve because I had to get the ears right so they didn’t point up to the sky like a Horses and also the face shape.

I worked with my Mum and Ashley to create my whanau star.

Katelyn's first Blog post 2020

Something that I was nervous about when starting the new year at school because I was moving up a class and going into year 5. I would face bigger challenges like how to make a summer skirt, bikini and umbrella out of Newspaper, A quiz about all our teachers (Mrs Kennedy, Mrs Loft, Miss Mac, Mrs Heaven & Mrs M).
Something that has surprised me this week was our teachers surprising us with really fun water included activities. Waterslide, Water Balloon relay race, First team to fill the learning in a box & Under Over with the plastic cups filled with water!
The activity I have enjoyed the most this week is the relay race with the water balloons and Miss Mac, because we had to work together in groups of two and walking back to back on an angle without popping or dropping the water balloon. If you dropped the water balloon but it didn’t pop then
you can pick it back up again and carry on but if you drop it and it pops then you need to go back to the end of the line.
